Sleek Sanctuary

Modern design strokes imbue this flat with an idyllic holiday feel

For the couple living in this HDB fat unit, the design of the interior makes their home the perfect place to unwind after a day’s work. Mesmerised by the stylish yet homely feel of service apartments on their trips abroad, they wanted to recreate that feel in their own apartment. To achieve that, they engaged John Chan from Genesis ID and in a mere fve weeks, they were presented with a service apartment-inspired house to call their own.

Doused in a soothing shade of dark brown and laid with marble fooring, the communal space is a vision of relaxation and elegance. Separated into two zones by a full-height display cabinet that provides storage and also doubles up as a divider, the living area features a zone for watching television and another zone for entertainment and games. When not in use, sliding glass panels conceal the screen and other entertainment peripherals.

Enclosed from the rest of the home by a swing glass door, the kitchen evokes an ultra-modern feel with its glossy white laminate cabinetry and tinted glass backing. For easy handling, all the cabinets and drawers are installed with BLUM’s soft-close system.

Back in the living room, John manages to conceal the passageway to the private quarters by putting up panels clad in laminate of the same dark wood fnish that blend seamlessly with the walls. Behind this hidden entrance are three bedrooms – one for the couple, one for their six-year-old son and the other as a spare.

The master bedroom is swathed in a similar colour scheme of dark brown and neutrals. For the additional element of cosiness, the couple decided to go with a padded wingback bed frame that imbues the room with a stately atmosphere. John also covered the wall using hi-sheen textured wallpaper with hints of silver and gold to increase the glam factor.
