Primary elements of loft houses are applied in small doses to create a cosy apartment with a raw edge
Inspired by the edgy industrial feel of loft apartments, the young couple of this four-room fat wanted to recreate that atmosphere in their new home. With that understanding in mind, the designer team from Exin went about to accomplish this task.
In one and a half months, this new apartment was transformed into a cosy and functional home for the pair of newlyweds. Whites, browns and textured surfaces have been cleverly applied in appropriate areas to create a warm, natural look that can easily be jazzed up for entertaining.
Stepping into this home, one would immediately be greeted by the hanging light bulbs from the ceiling. Besides being an eye catching lighting feature, it also lends a raw touch to the space, contributing to the loft look. While the wall on the left has been painted a soothing brown colour, the wall opposite is laid with craftstone to create a brick-like fnish to complement the look.
To fulfl the homeowners’ request for a bar table, the design team constructed a T-shaped granite countertop with its cabinets clad in off-white laminate. Shelves were also incorporated into the design to provide display and storage space for the couple’s collection of wine and liquor. Situated directly below the suspended light bulbs, this bar area features an elevated part with high stools that forms a cosy place for drinks at night and also sports a table-height portion that’s perfect for use as a breakfast counter.
In the private quarters, display shelves line the entire wall of the master bedroom. These were built to provide space for the huge toy collection that the couple has amassed over the years. Next to it is a built-in wardrobe with a brown leather fnish. To add visual interest, a simple geometric pattern was designed using laminate strips with a stainless steel fnishing. The brown leather and steel combination lends itself to creating an attic-like atmosphere.
The walls were also hacked to create a platform walkway that extends to the bathroom. With grey shelves and walls layered with textured ceramic tiles, the bathroom carries a modern rugged look that rounds up the minimalist loft-theme.
